Positive response to Electronics Weekly format re-launch
Following its re-launch in a smaller format earlier this month, Electronics Weekly’s publisher, Reed Business International, claims a very positive response from readers. “The vast majority liked the new size, and were constructive in their criticisms of the things they didn’t like in the new design. We listened, made the necessary changes, and the result has been a great success,” commented Mick Elliott, publisher of Electronics Weekly. The EW editorial team took the opportunity to introduce some new editorial features. These include the Five Questions We Want Answered column which poses key issues to industry executives on a weekly basis, and the Dr RoHS advice column. The team is also strengthening its coverage of technology and new products, as well as continuing to be the weekly news fix of the UK electronics industry. “So far the new design has been well received,“ Elliott added. “Feedback from readers has been excellent. The marketing community have also let us have their two penn’orth, mostly favourable, and again offering constructive comment.”

In Ron’s engineering career, which started at Tektronix, he was on the design team for an early graphics workstation, and also was involved in microprocessor development tools. “In my new role here, I’ll be writing stories as before - particularly in the areas of chip design and the interactions between chip design, system design and semiconductor processes. I will also be working with the technical editors to refine calendar topics and to organize the magazine each issue. So I’m still very much interested in hearing what’s new, what’s interesting, and what’s hot,” he told us.

Premier issue of Penton’s Military Electronics delivered digitally to 30,000 subscribers
A digital magazine formatted for a computer screen, Penton’s Military Electronics is delivered via email to 30,000 design engineers and engineering managers who work in military/aerospace related industries, claims the publisher. Written by technical editor Jack Browne, Penton’s Military Electronics claims to offer exclusive editorial and commentary, while covering regular topics such as systems, COTS Watch, contracts, emerging technology, R&D in military electronics, and important new product introductions. “Defense and homeland security is driving increased demand for military applications utilizing RF/microwave technology,” said Tom Morgan, director of Penton’s Electronics OEM Group and publisher of Penton’s Military Electronics. “Our research showed that a new publication was the best way to meet the information needs of this underserved market.” Sponsors support the magazine by supplying links to defense-related news, white papers, and other technical data that reside on their own web sites. The end result is a digital magazine that serves the design engineer working in defense/aerospace applications with critical information not available elsewhere, says Penton.
