Publitek Media News

February 2005

Introduction

Firstly, a straight plug for Publitek. As we expand our services into Asia, we’re now able to offer quality technical translations of press releases and electronics technical articles and other marketing materials into Chinese and Japanese, and we expect to be extending the service to Korean in the next month or so. You don’t need to be a Publitek PR or advertising client to use our translation services, so please get in touch if we can help.

It’s been another bumper month for news, and there seems to be more optimism in the market than there was in Q4 2004 with analysts predicting an upturn from mid year that will herald another couple of years of good growth for the electronics industry. Every month sees more publication launches in China and there are ever more e-marketing initiatives and new web sites to soak up advertising budgets. But a word of caution. Even in the US, where the web is so all-pervasive, our own independent research studies consistently show that electronics print publications still have very much higher readership amongst designers than any given web site. That doesn’t mean that web advertising can’t deliver great value, but it does mean that it has to be considered as part of the media mix, not as a low cost substitute for ads on the page.

Onto the news. . . .

Gordon Moore to Be Honored at EE Times ACE Awards

EE Times has announced that Gordon Moore, co-founder and chairman emeritus of Intel Corporation, will be awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural EE Times Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards for his pioneering role and extraordinary contributions to the semiconductor industry. This honor will be presented March 9, 2005, at an awards gala being held during CMP Media’s Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco. In 1965, Moore made an observation that the industry now considers “law.” He predicted that the number of transistors the industry would be able to place on a computer chip would double every year. In 1975, he updated his prediction to a doubling every two years. While originally intended as a rule of thumb, Moore’s Law became the guiding principle for the industry to deliver ever-more-powerful semiconductor chips at proportionate decreases in cost. The EE Times ACE Awards Lifetime Achievement Award candidates were selected by the editors of EE Times based on their individual accomplishments over the course of their careers.
