August 2005
INTRODUCTION
As you might expect for August, it’s been a quieter month for news but some interesting developments nevertheless. Who’d have thought that CMP/Global Sources would ever form an alliance with Penton Media to publish Electronic Design in China? This coming together of competitors is no doubt out of necessity rather than choice. Such is the Global Sources grip on the emerging market for electronics media and events in China, it’s hard to see how they are going to be seriously challenged as the media business matures there. Reed certainly have made some strong inroads with EDN China and ECN China, but the combination of the EE Times brand and ownership of key events would seem to put CMP/Global Sources firmly in the driving seat. It will be interesting to see if any local publishers manage to rise to the challenge.
